About Us

The Mersin University Gender Equality Plan Monitoring Commission (GEP Commission) was established to ensure the implementation and monitoring of Mersin University's Gender Equality Plan (METCEP) covering the period 2025–2028.

Our work began in July 2024 with a working group formed under the leadership of the Rector of Mersin University, with contributions from the Mersin University Women's Issues Application and Research Center (MERKAM) and academic staff working in the field of gender equality. During this process, gender equality data from university units was collected, and a comprehensive current situation analysis was conducted through university-wide surveys.

METCEP was prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Gender Equality Plan (GEP), which the European Commission mandates for all partner countries' higher education and research institutions under the Horizon Europe program, and was approved by the Mersin University Senate in February 2025. The plan; The Gender Equality Plan is based on a current situation analysis encompassing the academic, administrative, and student dimensions of the university and is structured around five thematic areas: work-life balance and institutional culture, equality in recruitment and careers, governance and decision-making mechanisms, equality in education and research, and measures against gender-based violence and sexual harassment.

Our commission monitors whether the goals set in these five thematic areas are implemented in a timely and effective manner, compiles annual progress data from the units and reports it to the Senate, and contributes to strengthening the culture of gender equality throughout the university. We base our work on the principles of transparency, accountability, and participation.

Through this plan, Mersin University aims not only to meet the conditions for accessing international funding calls but also to build a truly egalitarian environment in all areas of research, education, and institutional life. As the Gender Equality Commission, we are working to ensure that this transformation is sustainable and measurable.
